Albert Carroll

Albert Charles Carroll, 82, of Schawana, passed away at the Kadlec Medical Center on May 9, 2019. Viewing was held from 12:00-4:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 18, 2019 at Steward & Williams Funeral Home in Ellensburg.

Albert was born on May 4, 1937 in Fordyce, Arkansas to Albert Clark & Bessie (Clement) Carroll. The family moved to Ellensburg when he was five years old and he completed his schooling in Ellensburg. He enlisted in the United States Air Force at the age of 18 and served for two years, being honorably discharged in 1957. Albert married Betty O'Connor on October 27, 1961 and the couple, along with Betty's four children whom Albert considered to be his own, made their home in Kittitas later moving to Vantage, Schawana and the Tri-Cities. He has made Schawana his home since 2007. Albert was a long-haul truck driver for Anderson Hay & Grain, Lamb Weston/Con Agra and others. He managed a gas and service station in Vantage for many years and also ran a tow service. He also served as a volunteer firefighter, first in Kittitas and then with the Vantage Fire Department (Kittitas County District 4) from 1977 until 1990, retiring as Chief.

He was an avid collector of pens and anything having to do with eagles - including hats, statues and wall plates. He loved to fish and enjoyed all the experimental recipes his daughter in law Terri would make for him. Donuts were one of his favorite snacks and he was an avid attendee at county fairs all over the state. He had a good sense of humor and very much enjoyed spending quality time with his granddaughter, Shaylene.

Albert is survived by his wife, Betty; children Deanna (Terry) Pennington; Julie Bird, Steve (Terri) Carroll and Jason Shelley as well as 10 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his children Jim Larkin, Sharon Bogle and Roy Larkin; his siblings G. Edward Carroll and Anna M. Carrol and his parents. Memorial contributions in Albert's honor are suggested to St. Jude's Children's Hospital or the Make a Wish Foundation. Steward & Williams Funeral Home and Crematory of Ellensburg has been entrusted with caring for Albert's family.
