Allan L. "Bud" Upton, 76, of Cle Elum, passed away at his home in Cle Elum, WA on Tuesday, April 17, 2018. Bud was born on April 7, 1942 in Long Prairie, Minnesota to H.A. "Uppie" & Josephine (Bertzcyk) Upton. He grew up in the Lake Crystal area and graduated from Lake Crystal High School with the class of 1960. He was a huge history buff. After high school, Bud attended some college in Mankato, taking various history courses while he worked at Uppie's North Star. He also played soprano bugle in the St. Peter Govenaires Drum and Bugle Corps for several years. In November 1962, Bud married Sue Hughes, a young woman he'd known since high school. The young couple made their home in Lake Crystal and had two sons - Troy and Jason - and enjoyed 55 years of marriage - not just as husband and wife, but as each other's best friends. Bud worked with his dad and brother at Uppie's Sales & Service in Lake Crystal for many years, selling cars, pickup toppers, lawn mowers and anything else with wheels! In 1984, the family moved to Truman, Minnesota after Bud and Sue had purchased the Ford dealership in town. Bud operated Upton Ford in Truman for nearly 20 years before selling the business and retiring in 2003. Bud enjoyed eating, playing golf, playing any kind of card game, spending time on his lawn tractor, or talking about cars with anyone who would listen! He was known to mow neighbors' lawns or plow snow from their driveways just for fun. Bud and Sue moved to Cle Elum in 2014 to be closer to their sons and grandkids. Bud is survived by his wife of 55 years, Sue, his son Troy Upton of Spokane, his son Jason (Mary) Upton of Sammamish, his grandson Blake, and his granddaughter Allie. He is also survived by sister-in-law, Pam Upton and brothers-in-law, Bob Stevensen and J. Lonny (Joan) Hughes. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Mike and Bobby, as well as his sister Virginia. There was a Celebration of Life at the Lake Crystal American Legion Club in Lake Crystal, MN on Saturday May 19th from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM. No local services were held in Cle Elum. Memorials may be made to the donor's choice or to the Lake Crystal First Presbyterian Church at 302 Prince St E., Lake Crystal, MN 56055.
