Arvin Marchel

Arvin Allen Marchel, 84, longtime resident of Ellensburg and Kittitas, local cattle rancher, part time Pastor passed away on December 5, 2017 at the Regency Care Center in Wenatchee. Funeral services will be conducted from the Steward & Williams Chapel at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 9, 2017 with burial to follow at the Ellensburg I.O.O.F. Cemetery. Viewing will be Friday, December 8 from 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. also at the funeral home.

Arvin was born on January 2, 1933 at Spokane, Washington to Ellis & Madeline (Gies) Marchel. He grew up in the Odessa-Bridgeport area until the family moved to Ellensburg in 1943. He graduated from Thorp High School in 1951 and attended Central Washington University where he was a member of the Army ROTC. He was drafted into active duty during the Korean Conflict and served overseas and received an honorable discharge in 1955. Arvin returned to the states and attended Northwest Bible College where he earned his degree in ministry.

He pastored at both Bethel Gospel Church and at the International Baptist Church, both in Ellensburg. He married Cathy Edmonson in 1966 and the couple had three children. In 1984, Arvin married Delores Landry, they enjoyed 11 years of marriage before her passing away. Arvin married Anita Wilson sharing her home in Wenatchee, where they have spent many years together until his recent death.

In addition to his part time pastoral duties, Arvin also raised cattle, working with his brother Jerry, for many years. He never officially "retired" and very much enjoyed working until his health forced him to slow down. Arvin had a heart for the less fortunate in Ellensburg and Wenatchee and spent his time between there and Ellensburg. While in Wenatchee, he served on the board of the Hospitality House for several years, In Ellensburg he was President of Bethel Gospel Tabernacle, Inc.

Arvin is survived by Anita (Wilson) Marchel his loving companion in life; his children Lorilei (Brent) Swenson of Clarkston, Washington; Lynette Jacobson of Mukilteo, Washington and Arvin Lester (Andrea) Marchel of Des Moines, Washington; brother Jerry (Phyllis) Marchel and sister Vivian (Robert) Johnson, all of Ellensburg as well as five grandchildren. The family welcomes floral offerings for Arvin's service, however those wishing to make a memorial contribution in his honor are encouraged to consider Gideon's International. Steward & Williams Funeral Home & Crematory of Ellensburg has been entrusted with caring for Arvin's family.
