Ben Russell Cook

December 15, 1943 — May 24, 2022

Kittitas, Washington

Ben Russell Cook, beloved father, brother and uncle passed away on Tuesday, May 24, 2022 surrounded by his family at his home in Kittitas, Washington.

Ben was born on December 15, 1943 to Ben Marshall & Marigene (Shepley) Cook in Kirkland, Washington.  As the son of dairy farmer, Ben along with his siblings, Marian, Gene, and Jim, spent their days managing the family farm near Marymoor Park. Many summers Ben and his siblings could be found at the boat race, helping to park cars near the Redmond slough.

In 1961, Ben enlisted in the United States Army, where he proudly served for four years as a Military vehicle Mechanic. During his enlistment, he was able to travel to Germany, something he was very proud of.

In September 1969, Ben became a father to his son, John and soon after in 1971 he became a father to his daughter, Lisa.  Life became sweeter for Ben in 1983, when he met life long partner Loretta Klum and her three children. Over the next 40 years they spent an immense amount of time together where he built a strong relationship with Lorretta’s daughter, Chelsea.

Ben spent much of his life owning and operating the Ben Cook Hay Company out of Redmond and Ellensburg. Many mornings you could find Ben visiting with his friends at Sak’s restaurant in Ellensburg, spilling the tea with that mischievous smile and twinkle in his eyes.

Ben is survived by the love of his life, Lorretta Klum and her daughter Chelsea, his children John and Lisa, his siblings, Eugene, Marian, and Jim, along with his many grandchildren, Malia, Justin, Cierra, Jake, Landon, Jagger, Emma, Aiden, Josie, Aubrey, Andy, Paisley and Joey as well as great-grandson Shy. He is also leaving behind extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his mother Marigene Cook-Askew and father Ben M. Cook.

He will be remembered for his unparalleled storytelling, love of cars and trucks, his infectious laugh and playful smile.

Johnston & Williams Funeral Home and Crematory of Ellensburg has been entrusted with caring for Mr. Cook and his family.  Online condolences may be left at www.johnston-williams.com
