A graveside service for Carolyn (Groeschell) Nelson-Koch will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 5, 2019 at Laurel Hill Memorial Park in Cle Elum. Mrs. Koch, a native of Cle Elum, passed away on Thursday, September 26, 2019 in Puyallup at the age of 82.
Carolyn was born on September 22, 1937 to Joseph & Jenell (Johnson) Groeschell. She grew up in Cle Elum and attended Cle Elum-Roslyn High School. She married Harold Jack Nelson in 1956 and the young couple moved to Edmonds where Jack was employed by Boeing. Jack passed away after a battle with cancer in 1971. Carolyn returned to Cle Elum to raise their four children. She was a devoted mother and homemaker who loved spending time with her family. Because of declining health, she moved to Puyallup in the late 90’s to be closer to her daughter.
Carolyn is survived by her children, Tina (Michael) Marusich of Lakewood; Joe (Pam) Nelson of Cle Elum; Harry Nelson of South Cle Elum as well as nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters Gayel Jennings, Cherie Groeschell, Betty Dickenson and Lynn Beedle. She was preceded in death by her husband, her youngest son Jeff Nelson, her sister JoAnn Koch, as well as her parents.
A no-host reception and luncheon will be held at the Cle Elum Senior Center following the graveside services. Memorial contributions in Carolyn’s honor can be made to CHI Franciscan Foundation, PO Box 1502, Tacoma, WA 98401.
