Charles Henry Shannon, (Charlie) of Hadensville VA, Goochland County, died peacefully at the home of Roger and Patty Canterberry in Ellensburg WA on September 2, 2023.
He was the son of Albert and Janice Shannon, born on August 27, 1954 in Holly, MI. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Larry, Steven and John and his canine companion of 12 years Lexi, numerous aunts and uncles and many more that welcomed him with open arms.
He is survived by his sisters, Carla Shannon, Elsie Shannon, Mary Dye and Brenda Herndon and a multitude of nieces and nephews too many to mention, but his niece Michelle Ballard held a special place in his heart.
He is also survived by his loving husband and partner of nearly 30 years Sam Piazza. He will be extremely missed and will always remain “The Toughest”.
Charlie served in the U.S. Navy from 1974 and was honorably discharged in 1984 as Operation Specialist 3rd Class serving on the U.S.S. Independence.
Charlie loved gardening and was the proprietor of the ‘The Herb Barn’ located in Hadensville for over 10 years and was a staple at the ‘17th Street Farmers Market’ in Richmond for several years.
He loved seeing this country by making cross-country trips by car, in fact he made one last trip across this country to be with friends and family. Charlie and Sam would like to thank all our friends in family in Washington State for all their support during this difficult time, including; Jody and Bob McClure, Dotty and Brad Barr, Gretchen and Jay Huffman and especially Patty and Roger Canterberry and the multitude of family members for making Charlie comfortable and assisting in making his transition to the next level a peaceful one, your kindness will never be forgotten.
