Cody Rinehart

December 3, 1996 — January 14, 2019

A Celebration of Life for Cody Samuel Rinehart, 22, lifetime Ellensburg resident, was held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, January 25, 2019 at the Mercer Creek Church, 1407 N. B Street in Ellensburg. The family welcomed friends to a visitation on Saturday, January 19, 2019 from 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. at Steward & Williams Funeral Home in Ellensburg.

Cody was called home to be with our Heavenly Father on Monday, January 14, 2019 in Ellensburg. Cody was born on December 3, 1996, the oldest of five children born to David & Monica (Watterson) Rinehart. He grew up in Ellensburg and was proud to be a farm kid, working alongside his father and grandfather from a young age. As a young child, he could be found outside operating any piece of equipment he could talk his father or grandfather into letting him operate. He graduated from Ellensburg High School in 2015 and began working while continuing to help around the family farms, hauling hay with his uncle Jimmy and in his spare time he enjoyed heading up to the hills to cut firewood.

Cody loved to make people smile and laugh. He was always making jokes or dolling out nicknames to get a smile out of his friends and family. He also loved to be outside more than anything. His hobbies included dirt biking, snowmobiling, getting firewood and cruising the backroads of Ellensburg with the music loud enough that people a mile away knew he was coming. He was a very caring and compassionate man and had many family members and friends, all of whom he cared for deeply and who will, in turn, miss him terribly. Cody loved animals and spent many hours riding horses and participating in the local 4H program, both raising swine for show and sale at the fair and competing in the canine shows with his mini-Aussie puppy, Buddy. More recently, Cody enjoyed palling around with his puppy Ariat.

Cody is survived by his parents, David & Monica Rinehart; his four younger siblings Kylie, Chad, Kara & Clint Rinehart; grandparents Don Rinehart, Donna & Rick Hawk and Bim Watterson; his great-grandmother Betty Watterson and great-grandfather William Moore, as well as numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Rosemary Rinehart.

Cody was diagnosed with Type 1 Juvenile Diabetes at the age of three and his death was caused by a condition known as ketoacidosis, a serious and sudden complication of the disease. To that end, and in the hopes of finding a cure so that no family will have to suffer a sudden and tragic loss like this, the family requests memorial contributions in Cody's honor be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, www.jdrf.org/fundraising/ or by mail to JDFR, 26 Broadway, 14th Floor, New York, NY 10004 Steward & Williams Funeral Home and Crematory of Ellensburg has been entrusted with caring for Cody's family.
