Dr. Judson K. Weaver, DDS, 83, of Ellensburg, passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, July 18, 2024. His memorial service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, August 2 in the Evenson Memorial Chapel at Johnston & Williams in Ellensburg.
Jud was born on July 1, 1941 in Wenatchee, Washington to Keith & Thelma (Plouse) Weaver and grew up in Ellensburg where he graduated from Ellensburg High School in 1959. He attended Whitman College, Central Washington University and earned his DDS degree from the University of Washington. Following graduation from UW, Jud enlisted in the United States Army and was stationed in Germany, serving with the medical corps as a dentist.
After his discharge in 1971, Jud returned to Ellensburg and took over his father’s dental practice. He was the third generation of the Weaver family to work as a dentist in Ellensburg, which went back to his grandfather who established a dental practice in town in 1902. Although he had the whole world on his plate, Jud returned to the Kittitas Valley because he loved the area and all that it had to offer. He truly considered Ellensburg his home.
During his 38 year career, Jud cared for countless patients, many of whom he considered friends. He was also instrumental in starting a children’s dental health day every year, inviting first graders from the local schools to tour his office and learn about cavities and proper brushing techniques. He always felt those visits helped children feel more comfortable about going to see the dentist. He retired and closed the practice in 2009.
Jud met the love of his life, Muriel, at a dinner party. He asked her out on a date, she accepted, and they would spend the next 40 years together as soulmates and each other’s best friends.
Jud’s hobbies were vast and eclectic. Outdoors, he loved fly fishing, river floating, canoeing, paragliding and cycling. Indoors, he was an avid reader and loved writing. He and Muriel also traveled the world to many destinations including Southeast Asia, Central America (Belize was a favorite destination) and many parts of Europe.
Jud is survived by his wife, Muriel, of Ellensburg; sons Keith Weaver of Reno, NV and Peter (Sarah) Lindsay of Seattle; grandchildren Malcolm and Calvin; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Tim Weaver.
The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation and gratitude to KVH Home Health and Hospice and to Aging & Long Term Care for their love and support through Jud’s final interval.
