Carl Edward “Ed” Kossow, 66, of North Bend, passed away on Monday, January 18, 2021 of a heart attack. Viewing for family and friends will be Sunday, January 24 from 3:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. at Johnston & Williams Funeral Home in Cle Elum. A large gathering to celebrate Ed’s life will also be held at a later date.
Ed was born on March 12, 1954 in Lawrence, Kansas, the third of nine children born to Donald & Virginia (Countryman) Kossow. His family moved quite a bit when Ed was younger and eventually settled down in the Snoqualmie Valley in 1968. After graduating high school early from Bellevue Community College, Ed joined the United States Air Force in 1972. Stationed at Beale AFB in California, Ed was an aircraft maintenance specialist and worked on the SR-71 Blackbird which was still very top secret.
Following his honorable discharge in 1975, Ed returned to Snoqualmie Valley and began his lifelong career in the construction trade. Ed married Wendy McCall in 1978 and moved to the home in North Bend where he still resided at the time of his death. There they raised their 3 children, Heidi, Joshua, and Jeremiah. From BBQ’s, family reunions, birthday parties, 4th of July celebrations or just because he “got a good deal on meat” Ed was always cooking and entertaining for anyone that dropped by. The “Kossow House” was always the gathering place for family and friends, no matter what time in the day or night you dropped by to say hi to Ed he would greet you with that infectious smile and ask if you were hungry.
In January of 2018 Ed met Kim Yuhl. They instantly hit it off and fell in love. He proposed to her just over a year later on Valentine’s Day 2019.
Ed was a “good ol boy” who enjoyed smoking meat, cooking for an army, making his own moonshine, hunting, fishing and fast cars. But the most important thing to Ed was taking care of his family and friends. He enjoyed every minute he spent with his brothers, sisters, kids, grandkids, great grandkids and his enormous circle of friends.
Ed truly was one of a kind with the biggest heart, most comforting arms to hold you, and the voice of reason to correct you if needed. To Ed, strangers were just friends that he had not met yet.
Ed is survived by his fiance Kim Yuhl of North Bend; children Heidi (Tyler) Dawson of Sultan, Joshua (Shannon) Kossow of Cle Elum and Jeremiah (Ashley) Kossow of Maple Valley; grandchildren Jessica, Kristen and Camren Kossow, Patrick, Joshua, Tyler and Ethan Dawson, Lillian and Jaxson Kossow; great-grandchildren Brayden, Pyper and Baby A. due in July 2021. He is also survived by his siblings Coral Breider(Ivan) , Crystal Kossow, Carmen Moe (Rod), Candy David (Russ), Colleen Carlson (John), Calvin and Sarah, Carillon Becraft ( Jeff) Clover Baril (Todd).
