Eva Lois Storlie, 99, passed away on Friday, February 7, 2025 at Fieldstone Memory Care in Yakima. A private family graveside service will be held at the IOOF Cemetery in Ellensburg.
Eva Lois was born on January 2, 1926 in Ellensburg, Washington to Roy & Tressa (Gage) Mundy. In her early childhood, her father was a construction man, working on such projects as the Kittitas County Highline ditch and spillway, several irrigation projects in eastern Oregon, and the Lake Cushman Dam on Hood Canal. In 1931, the family returned to the valley where Roy opened and managed a new farm east of Kittitas.
Eva Lois started her early schooling years in Kittitas until her father’s death in 1937, at which time Mrs. Mundy moved the family to Ellensburg where Eva Lois, along with her brother John E. Mundy, attended and graduated from school. Following graduation, during World War II, Eva Lois entered nurse’s training at St. Elizabeth’s School of Nursing in Yakima as a member of the Cadet Nurse Corps.
Eva Lois returned to Ellensburg after nursing school and began working at the Ellensburg General Hospital on East Third Avenue until she married Carl Storlie in 1949. They were married for 36 years, enjoying many activities together including hunting, fishing and moving here and there as Carl’s job in the construction trade took them from project to project. This route eventually made Dallesport, Washington their home and Eva Lois worked at the nursing home in Goldendale.
Following Mr. Storlie’s sudden and unexpected death in 1986, Eva Lois remained in Goldendale until 1990 when she returned to Ellensburg to be closer to her mother and family. She cared for her mother, Tressa, until she passed away in 2000. In the years following her mother’s death, Eva Lois continued to live a quiet life in Ellensburg, enjoying family and friends and tending to her home and flowers. In 2022, her health required that she move to Yakima’s Fieldstone Memory Care where she has resided since that time.
Eva Lois is survived by her stepchildren Art (Rose) Storlie and Betty (Dick) Ulrich; her beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren; nieces Cynthia Eno and Jessica Eno, nephew Ian Mundy, along with their families; as well as her dear niece-in-law and longtime caregiver, Gwen Sorenson. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Carl Storlie, her brother John E. Mundy.
