Evie Murchison

August 31, 1949 — July 12, 2024

Tacoma, Washington

Eva Marie “Evie” Murchison, 74, of Tacoma, passed away on Friday, July 12, 2024 at her home surrounded by her loving family. Vigil & Rosary will be at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, August 9 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Cle Elum. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 10 also at St. John’s with burial to follow at Laurel Hill Memorial Park.

Evie was born on August 31, 1949 in Ellensburg, Washington to Joseph E. & Mary Ann (Paskvan) DeVere. She was raised in Cle Elum and graduated from Cle Elum High School in 1968. Evie married George Murchison in 1969. Since George was in the military, the young couple moved around as his duty stations changed, eventually planting roots in Yelm. They were blessed with three children - Tony, Dan and Tina. Even though they later parted ways, Evie and George continued to remain friends.

Evie started working at Madigan Army Hospital in 1978 filling different roles over the years, before retiring in 2013 as a Certified Tumor Registrar, helping to track and maintain a nationwide database of tumors. She was an active participant in her union AFGE 1502 where she held the office of Treasurer for several years. She later transitioned to the private sector, working for MultiCare as a Certified Tumor Registrar, finalizing her career in 2020.

Evie enjoyed many things, but first and foremost was the time she spent with family. She especially adored her grandchildren and great grandchildren, making many memories with them that they will cherish forever. Evie was also somewhat of an adventurer, she loved fishing, dancing and traveled many places, always enjoying good food, great wine and laughter along the way. She was a devout Catholic and a longtime member of the Our Lady Queen of Heaven Church in Tacoma. She also considered it a joy to be a member of the Lambda Master chapter of Beta Sigma Phi.

Evie is survived by her children Tony (Heather) Murchison of Rainier; Dan (Cheech) Murchison of Yelm and Tina (Donald) Johnson of Ridgefield; brother Joe DeVere of South Cle Elum; longtime companion and friend Robert Lara of Tacoma as well as 11 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and a large extended family and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers Jim, Chuck and Pat.

Evie requested that those wishing to make a memorial contribution do so to the St. Jude Children’s Hospital at www.stjude.org/donate

Arrangements have been entrusted to Johnston & Williams of Cle Elum. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.johnston-williams.com
