Janet Shoudy Warford was born at Swedish Hospital in Seattle, Washington, on April 21, 1941, to Paul Alden and Ann Ferguson Shoudy. As a young girl, her family moved from the Magnolia neighborhood in Seattle across Lake Washington to the small, rural Eastside community of Medina. She attended Medina Elementary, Bellevue Junior High, and graduated in the class of 1959 from Bellevue High School.
Janet began her college education at the University of Oregon before transferring to the University of Washington, where she met and later married Ralph Morton Warford in December 1963. Together, they started their family: Alexandria, John Ferguson, and Victoria.
Janet joyfully raised Andi, John, and Tori while actively participating in school and charitable activities. She was a dedicated member of The Junior League of Seattle, which included volunteering at the Wise Penny thrift store in the University District. She was also a member of the Helen Morrison Guild for Seattle Children’s Hospital and really enjoyed her involvement in the Seattle Garden Club.
In her downtime, Janet loved reading, homemaking, playing tennis, gardening, and, most of all, helping care for her six grandchildren: Bjorn, Kristina, Max, Luke, Lindsey, and Charlie.
Janet’s family history is deeply rooted in Washington state. On her mother’s side, her great-uncle was Isaac Stevens, the first governor of Washington Territory. On her father’s side, she was the great-granddaughter of John Alden and Mary Ellen Shoudy, the founders of Ellensburg.
In her later years, Janet moved to Ellensburg to help with Tori’s children. She embraced her family’s heritage by volunteering at the Kittitas County Historical Museum and was inducted into the Ellensburg chapter of the Odd Fellows, following in the footsteps of her great-grandparents.
Janet always greeted everyone with a warm smile and had a unique ability to make people feel welcome. Janet passed away on November 22, 2024. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
Janet is survived by her daughters, Alexandria (Mike) Meucci and Victoria (Bob) Yaap; her daughter-in-law, Liv Warford; and her six beloved grandchildren: Bjorn Alden and Kristina Ann Warford, Max Alden Meucci, and Luke McAdoo, Lindsey Ann, and Charles McCaw Yaap.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Paul Alden Shoudy and Ann Ferguson Simmons; her brother, John Alden Shoudy; her husband, Ralph Morton Warford; and her son, John Ferguson Warford.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Johnston & Williams of Ellensburg. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.johnston-williams.com
