Jean Cutlip

October 22, 1937 — July 5, 2022

Ellensburg, Washington

Carolyn Jean Cutlip, 84, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 5, 2022 at her Ellensburg home in the midst of her family. She is survived by her husband, Fred Cutlip; her children Kim (Ben Henwood), Chris (Susan) and Phil, along with grandchildren Scott, Sandy, Bonnie, Wesley, Nicholas, Caralyn, Jael, and Maxwell.

We remember Jean for her vivacious nature and her selfless commitment to many local and worldwide causes. In Ellensburg, Jean led the local March of Dimes chapter, the local UNICEF committee and was a vital part of the early development and administration of the FISH Food Bank. She helped form the Youth Services Open House and the Community Schools Program, served as a Guardian Ad Litem in the courts, was actively involved in the local and national leadership of the United Methodist Church, and worked in Ellensburg's First Lutheran Church to strengthen its ties to and support of Ulanga Kilombero church and school in Tanzania. She helped form and lead United Ministries in Higher Education, an umbrella organization for campus ministries in the Northwest.  Jean was a founding board member and treasurer for Ellensburg's Habitat for Humanity.

Jean worked as a speech therapist in the Ellensburg School District from 1975-2000.  She is frequently, fondly remembered by her former speech pupils.  Music was always a part of Jean’s life.  She played the piano skillfully and lovingly, often accompanying her family when they sang at area nursing homes.  She was a dedicated church choir member throughout her life and sang in several community theater productions.  Jean instilled intellectual curiosity and joy in reading in all of her children.  She will be remembered, missed and cherished.

Memorial contributions in Jean’s honor are suggested to the FISH Community Food Bank, 804 Elmview Rd, Ellensburg, WA 98926 or online at https://kvfish.org/donate/
