Julia May (Kozelisky) Wallgren

May 30, 1918 — April 29, 2018

Julia May (Kozelisky) Wallgren, 99, lifetime Kittitas County resident, passed away on April 29, 2018 at Hearthstone Cottage Assisted Living in Ellensburg. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 12 noon on Saturday, May 19, 2018 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Roslyn. Burial followed at the Roslyn Cemetery,a reception followed at the Sunset Café in Cle Elum. Julia was born on May 30, 1918 in Ronald, Washington, the oldest of three children born to Joseph & Katherine (Chepoda) Kozelisky. She was raised in Ronald and graduated from Cle Elum High School in 1936. Julia married John William "Bill" Wallgren on December 5, 1936 and the young couple made their home in Ronald - the home that Julia would live in until just three years ago when she moved to Hearthstone Cottage in Ellensburg. They were blessed with three children - Dennis, Terry and Jo Anne. She stayed at home caring for her children until they were school age and then went to work at Safeway in Cle Elum for nearly 27 years before retiring at the age of 60. Julia loved to do volunteer work and was very involved in her church and community. She taught catechism classes for the Immaculate Conception church in her home. She was a Cub Scout den mother, and worked and held office at her children's school PTA. She also helped with the startup of the Ronald Community Club, serving many years as an officer. She enjoyed spending time with her family boating, fishing, camping and enjoying the out of doors. She was honored to be chosen as upper Kittitas County pioneer queen in 1993 and also belonged to the Eagles Club, AARP, Pinochle club and the Heritage Club. She enjoyed traveling, and felt lucky to have visited relatives in Croatia Yugoslavia She is survived by her daughter, Jo Anne (Jerry) Sherwood of Wenatchee; son Dennis (Muriel) Wallgren of Wenatchee; daughter-in-law Sharon Wallgren of South Cle Elum as well as five grandchildren - Dennae Lumsden, Cari Jo Owens, Erik Wallgren, Teri Anne Wallgren and Cali Sherwood; 12 great grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren . She was preceded in death by her husband Bill; son Terry, as well as her parents, sister Catherine and brother George. Memorial contributions in Julia's honor are suggested to Immaculate Conception Catholic Church or to the Ronald Community Club.
