Kenneth Dale Covey

February 20, 1939 — January 22, 2022

Ellensburg, Washington

Kenneth Dale Covey, 84, longtime Ellensburg resident, passed away at his home on Saturday, January 22, 2022.  At his request, no formal services will be conducted.

Ken was born on February 20, 1939 in Seattle to Earl & Emma (Kinghammer) Covey.  He grew up in the Maple Valley area and attended Tahoma High School.  He spent most of his career as a master mechanic for Fugate Ford in Enumclaw.  In addition to working full time at the dealership, Ken would then come home and work on more cars in his own shop. He was focused on being a provider for his family and never shied away from putting in a full day's work.

Ken met Kay Robertson through some mutual friends and they were married on December 4, 1961.  They lived in Maple Valley, in the home that Ken built himself, until they retired to the Badger Pocket area of Ellensburg in the late 1980’s.  In retirement, Ken continued to work on friends' cars and tractors while also operating KC Cattle until his health forced him to slow down.

Ken loved anything having to do with the outdoors - bird hunting was his favorite because it let him spend time with his beloved dogs. He enjoyed fishing and also had the opportunity to hunt antelope, moose and bears.  Above all else, the time spent with his family was most important, including all of the adventures he would take with his granddaughters.  His family will miss his easy going ways, his helpful and generous nature and his friendly smile.

Ken is survived by his wife Kay at the family home in Ellensburg; sons Glen Covey of Ellensburg and Todd (Tina) Covey of Othello; granddaughters Lauren (Peter) Anderson of Othello and Rachel (Drew) Scott of Moses Lake as well as his beautiful great-granddaughter, Brooklyn Kay Anderson.

Memorial contributions in Ken’s honor are suggested to the Kittitas County Friends of Animals, PO Box 1239 Ellensburg, WA 98926.

Johnston & Williams Funeral Home and Crematory of Ellensburg has been entrusted with caring for Ken and his family.  Online condolences may be left at www.johnston-williams.com
