In 1953, Mick married his high school sweetheart, Sharlene Pays of Cle Elum, and they moved to Albuquerque, NM where he finished his military duty. Two children were born during this time, Cynthia Marie and Lawrence Michael. The family returned home to Roslyn where Mick resumed working with his dad. Son Kenneth Dwayne came along in 1957. In 1958, Mick moved his family to Los Angeles, where he worked and finished his education. Son Jeffrey Dean was born there in 1960.
Mick ultimately landed a job at Aerospace Corporation as an aerospace engineer. His company contracted with NASA and the Air Force in the space program. Mick did thermal studies on the Apollo space craft and was fortunate to meet several of the astronauts at that time. He went on to other duties including computer programming for satellite orbital analysis.
Mick retired in 1993 after 29 years of "playing around with space toys". Two years later, Shar finished her job as instructional aid at the local grade school, and they moved back to upper Kittitas County, living in Nelson Siding and Roslyn. Summers were spent camping at Fish Lake with a family reunion weekend there every year.
