Lila M. Slater

September 7, 1936 — February 6, 2025

Ellensburg, Washington

Lila Mae Slater, a beloved mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, passed away in Wenatchee, Washington on Thursday, February 6, 2025, at the age of eighty-eight. Born on September 7, 1936, in Stockton, California to Clarence A. Anderson and Thelma Grace Cook.

Lila and her brother, Bert, were adopted by the Wyant’s and relocated to Roy, Washington in 1938, where she spent most of her childhood. The family lived on a farm and Lila loved animals; cats, dogs, horses, cows, goats, and chickens to name a few. She was a member of FFA and proudly showed her brown Swiss cow. The family moved to Dupont in 1950, and Lila graduated from Clover Park Senior High School in 1954.

Following graduation, Lila spent her first twenty years pursuing a career as an Executive Secretary working for National Bank of WA at Ft. Lewis; Civil Service in The Wing Chaplain’s Office, Parks AFB; Combat Operation’s Office, McChord AFB; PBS GSA, Auburn; Sales Manager for the SST Program & SE Asia Sales at The Boeing Company, Seattle, until the birth of her second child, Trent. The next twenty years she spent as a courier for various delivery services including Mail Dispatch and Speedy Currier Service until her early retirement in 1996. In her retirement she traveled to Arizona and eventually settled in El Mirage on the 15th hole of the Pueblo El Mirage Golf Course. She spent over 25 years enjoying the sunshine and golfing out her back patio. In 2022 she moved back to Washington to be closer to her family.

Washington was where Lila spent most of her life. She played tennis in high school, later was in a bowling league, women’s softball league, an accomplished golfer, lawn bowler and was a member of the Seattle Curling Club. She was an avid sports fan, who especially enjoyed watching and cheering on the UW Huskies Football team as well as the Seattle Seahawks.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Richard Lee Slater, her birth parents, Clarence and Thelma Anderson and her adoptive parents, Dale and Olga Wyant. She is survived by her brother Bert (Barbara) Wyant, daughter Teri (Ed) Letcher, son Trent (Julie) Youngman, granddaughters Alli (Dan) Mahoney and Kelsey Letcher and great grandson Patrick Mahoney. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends.

Lila requested there be no memorial service. Arrangements have been entrusted to Johnston & Williams of Ellensburg. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.johnston-williams.com.
