Lyle Dean Matheson

June 5, 1966 — October 9, 2020

Cle Elum, Washington

Lyle Dean Matheson, 54, of Cle Elum, passed away at his home on Friday, October 9, 2020 following a courageous battle with cancer. Lyle viewed this battle as a “Win Win.” He would win if he beat it or would win if he went home to the Lord.  Private family services have been held.

Lyle was born on June 5, 1966 in Lynnwood, Washington to Warner “Matt” & Marlene (Malland) Matheson.  He grew up in the Twisp/Winthrop area, playing football and wrestling for Liberty Bell High School, graduating in 1985.  Following graduation, Lyle opened a fiberglass boat repair business that he operated before joining the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local #302.

Lyle worked for a number of companies as a tower crane operator and helped with many construction projects in the northwest including the CWU Health Sciences Building and the Swedish Highlands Hospital.  He later transitioned to working in sales and bidding jobs for Seaburg Construction, a position he was still working in at the time of his death.

Lyle met his wife Molly via Match.com and the two hit it off, eventually combining their families and becoming their own version of the “Brady Bunch” when they married on June 12, 2010.  They lived in Lake Stevens for a couple years before settling down in Cle Elum in 2012.

Whether it was snowmobiling into the backcountry, hiking, dredging for gold or enjoying a day of hunting, Lyle thoroughly enjoyed spending time outdoors. He was a loving husband, father, son, brother, and friend who will be missed by those who knew him.

Lyle is survived by his wife, Molly, at the family home in Cle Elum; children Ashley (Ryan Wilson) Matheson of Iowa; Emily (Brady Beck) Hurley of Selah; Morgan Hurley of Yakima and Julie Hurley, Ariana Matheson and Wyatt Matheson of Cle Elum; grandchildren Marlowe and Kenny as well as his mother Marlene Matheson of Arlington and father Warner “Matt” (Betty) Matheson of Wenatchee.  His sister Lori Matheson-Reese, brothers Mark Matheson and Rick Johnson also survive.

Memorial contributions in Lyle’s honor are suggested to the Matheson Benefit Fund, c/o any Cashmere Valley Bank location.  Johnston & Williams Funeral Home and Crematory of Cle Elum has been entrusted with caring for Lyle’s family.  Online condolences may be left at www.johnston-williams.com
