Cle Elum, Washington

Marian Alice Weis, who lived in the Upper Kittitas County most of her 93 years, passed onto the Kingdom of our Lord and Savior five days before what would have been her 94th birthday.

Marian was born to Roy and Betty (Carle) Cox on October 20, 1928, in Athena, Oregon. She attended school at Freewater, Oregon and graduated from Mac High School in Milton, Oregon in 1946. In 1948, Marian married Harold Weis and at that time Marian was working as a Switch board operator in Walla Walla, Washington.

Marian and Harold then moved to Prescott, Washington where they operated the telephone company. Soon after they arrived, they borrowed the money to purchase and improve the Prescott Telephone Company. While in Prescott, in 1951 and 1954 Marian gave birth to sons Alan and Douglas.

In 1960 after successfully upgrading Prescott Telephone Company, Marian and Harold moved to Ronald, secured a loan, purchased, and then upgraded the Roslyn Telephone Company. In 1964 Marian and Harold built a home at Lake Cle Elum and in 1969 Marian gave birth to her third son, Nathan.

Marian was very supportive and active in community organizations and clubs. She was also very competitive and good at bowling and golfing, where she won and placed in many tournaments.

Marian was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her brother Raymond, sister Maxine Brumbach and her son Alan. She is survived by a sister-in-law Pauline Key Cox; her children Douglas (Susan) Weis and Nathan (Lisa) Weis, as well as nine grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.

A private family service will be held to honor Marian’s life. Memorial contributions are suggested to Hearts and Hands of Kittitas County (formerly Hospice Friends), 302 E.
