Mary Lee (Moody) Patriquin, 86, of Ellensburg, passed away at her home on Saturday, December 4, 2021 surrounded by her loving family. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, December 11, at Johnston & Williams Funeral Home in Ellensburg.
Mary was born on October 24, 1935 in Anacortes, Washington to Harry & Thelma (Thomas) Moody. Having lost her hearing as a result of scarlet fever when she was four years old, Mary attended specialized schooling for the deaf in Vancouver and graduated from high school as Valedictorian there in 1955. She made many friends in school and they have all remained very close over the years. After graduation, Mary worked as a key punch operator for Seattle First National Bank and later as a mail sorter for the post office.
Mary met Donald Patriquin at a bowling tournament in the spring of 1966 and, after a whirlwind courtship, they married on October 21, 1966. They made their home in Vancouver, later moving to Renton where Donald worked for Boeing before retiring to Ellensburg in the late 2000’s.
Mary was the true definition of a bookworm - very rarely would you see her without a book in her hands. She and Donald also traveled to 49 of the 50 states (they never made it to Maine) to participate in many bowling tournaments. Mary and Donald also traveled internationally, attending the Deaf World Conference in Australia and taking a pilgrimage to Israel where she and Donald were both baptized in the Jordan River.
Mary is survived by her husband, Donald, at the family home in Ellensburg; daughter Molly (Evan) Xanthos of Bothell; sons Mark Moody of Bellevue and Dean Patriquin of Ellensburg; grandchildren Roark, Logan, Tyler, Caylen, Cole and Savannah as well as her brother Bill (Sandy) Moody of Twisp.
The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to both KVH Hospice and Hospice Friends for their impeccable care and support during Mary’s Hospice journey. To that end, memorial contributions in Mary’s honor are suggested to either KVH Hospice, 1506 E. Radio Road or Hospice Friends, 302 E. Second, both in Ellensburg.
