Micah Eulalio Narte passed away on January 8, 2023 from injuries sustained in a snowboarding accident at Alpental on Snoqualmie Pass. He was 14 years old. Micah is survived by his parents, Tina and Ted Rockwell of Cle Elum, Washington and Dante Narte and Wynona Francis of Chilliwack, British Columbia; his sister, Ruby Narte; brothers Elijah Narte, Caleb Narte and Christopher Hammond; sisters-in-law Brystal Narte and Isabelle DeVaux; step-brothers Michael and Damien Rockwell; nephews Michael and Asher and niece Aubrey; his Grandmothers and Grandfather; his beloved pets, particularly Arlo; and dozens of Aunts, Uncles, and Cousins.
Micah spent his early childhood on Bainbridge Island before moving to Cle Elum with his family in 2017. He was a proud Cle Elumite and embodied the Warrior spirit – fearless and loyal. He was a multi-sport athlete and was an Honor Roll student for all three years at Walter Strom Middle School and continued to be at Cle Elum Roslyn High School where he was also voted Freshman ASB President by his classmates.
As the quarterback for the JV football team, he helped lead the Warriors to an 8-1 record, including a victory over rival school Kittitas. However, his passion was baseball. As an 8th grader, Micah was invited to try out for the High School Varsity team. He was selected, along with three other boys, and helped the Warriors Baseball team to a 16-7 regular season record as a pitcher and first baseman. During the final game of district playoffs, with a trip to the State playoffs on the line, Coach Mike Halverson put the ball in Micah’s hands. He responded by pitching a complete game shutout and the Warriors baseball team went to State for the first time since 1992. Micah was awarded 2nd Team All-League honors.
Apart from school athletics, Micah’s passions were salmon fishing on the Fraser River with his Dad, cheering on the Seahawks and Mariners, being with his friends, and snowboarding. During COVID, snowboarding became Micah’s outlet for physical activity. In the 2021-2022 season, he made over 90 trips to the Summit at Snoqualmie and Alpental, and spent a week in Lake Tahoe with friends and neighbors, the Garcias. Micah loved his friends deeply. The Sandlot (and their siblings), but in particular his first friend here, Sawyer; his surrogate big brother, Dom; and above all, his best friend, Grant. They were inseparable, and Grant was with him that day at Alpental, literally until his final minute.
We, his family, remember Micah as the big-hearted boy that he was. We will never forget his sense of humor and mischief, his unique ability to needle and tease those that he was closest to and the intense bond and love he had for his Mom, even in the oppositional teenage moments. Confident, but never without compassion. Forever a Warrior.
A memorial service for Micah will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 22, 2023 at the Walter Strom Middle School Gym.
