Michael J. Fischer, 73, resident of Thorp, passed away at his home on June 13, 2018. Private family services will be held at Tahoma National Cemetery at a later date.
Mike was born on May 25, 1945 in Seattle, Washington, the second of two children born to Edward & Pauline (Hart) Fischer. He spent his early years in Kirkland before his family moved to Bellevue, where he graduated from Bellevue High School in 1964. In 1965, Mike was drafted into the US Army during the Vietnam War and spent two years stationed in Germany, servicing equipment coming back from Vietnam.
Mike met Wendy-Jean Dillehay while he was working at a car dealership and the two hit it right off, having discovered they attended the same elementary school as children. They married on October 3, 1970 and settled in Redmond. They were blessed with two children - Michael & Angela. Mike worked as a mechanic, parts man and did various maintence for both the City of Bellevue and the Bellevue School District. After he retired, he and Wendy-Jean moved to Thorp.
Mike was an avid gun collector, proud member of the National Rifle Association and an avid hunter. He studied the history of many firearms and would often critique western movies as to the accuracy of the guns depicted in those films. He was also an avid coin collector and overall "car guy". Mike's greatest joy, however, was his family and spending time with his wife, children and granddaughters. They spent many good times together going camping as well as doing some fishing here and there.
Mike is survived by his wife, Wendy-Jean Fischer at the family home in Thorp; son Michael Fischer of Everett and daughter Angela Fischer of Tacoma; granddaughters Kailynn, Eva, Emma-Jean and Keira, as well as many extended family members and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister. Memorial contributions in Mike's honor are suggested to the Wounded Warrior Project (www.woundedwarriorproject.org). Steward & Williams Funeral Home and Crematory of Ellensburg has been entrusted with caring for Mike's family. Online condolences may be left at www.steward-williams.com
