Michael E. Morefield, Sr.

Michael E. “Mike” Morefield, Sr., (AKA: fuzzy, papa, grandpa) passed away on Wednesday August 23, 2023 at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle due to complications from a brain aneurysm.

Mike was born on November 19, 1960 in Colville, Washington and moved to Kittitas when he was an infant.  He grew up in Kittitas and was raised by the Ekiss family.  He attended Kittitas schools, graduating from Kittitas High School in 1980 where he excelled as a multi-sport athlete in football, basketball, baseball and track.

During his working life, Mike was a jack of many trades but spent most of his career working as a well driller around the valley. When he wasn’t working, you could find him hunting, boating and spending time with his family.  He was a big teddy bear to his grandchildren, nieces and nephews and loved spending as much time with them as possible.

Mike is survived by his wife of 42 years, Tina Morefield of Kittitas; sons Michael Morefield, Jr. of Yakima and Levi Morefield of Kittitas; brothers Larry Morefield of Spokane and Dave Morefield of Ellensburg; mother in law Bev Allphin of Kittitas; his “bonus sons” Benjamin and Kenny and their families; as well as many extended family members including grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles and friends.

Memorial contributions in Mike’s honor are suggested to any cause that benefits the community of Kittitas.

A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 9, 2023 at High Valley Memorial Park on Robinson Canyon Road outside of Ellensburg with reception/potluck to follow at the Kittitas Community Hall (dress casual).  Viewing will be Friday, September 8 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Johnston & Williams Funeral Home in Ellensburg.
