Michael E. Waters, 69, lifetime Ellensburg resident, passed away at his home on Sunday, August 8, 2021. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Ellensburg American Legion starting at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 11, 2021.
Mike was born on October 27, 1951 in Ellensburg, Washington to Eugene “Vern” & Dorothy “June” (Virden) Waters. He grew up in Ellensburg and graduated from Ellensburg High School with the class of 1970. Following graduation, Mike enlisted in the United States Air Force where he was stationed in Turkey and Japan before his honorable discharge four years after enlistment.
After his discharge, and after a year of civilian service in the intelligence community, Mike returned to Ellensburg where he went to work for Safeway, first as a produce clerk and then on the night crew. He retired in the early 2000’s. While working at Safeway, Mike fell in love with his co-worker, Eva Wyatt, and they married in 1986. They were blessed with two children - Jordan and Shannon. That marriage later ended in divorce.
Mike enjoyed a variety of hobbies including playing pool, shooting darts and playing softball. While spending the winters snowmobiling above Ronald at the family's cabin, he was always in charge of the fireplace! He enjoyed watching many things on television - from cable news to the Discovery Channel and all things in between. He had a strong sense of right and wrong and instilled those values in his children. His smile, sense of humor and contagious laugh will be missed by all who knew him.
Mike is survived by his son Jordan Waters and daughter Shannon Waters, both of Ellensburg; brothers Rick (Tammy) Waters of Enumclaw and Gary (Lori) Waters of Ellensburg; nephew Brandon Waters and niece Amanda Richardson. He was preceded in death by his parents and his nephew Preston Waters.
Memorial contributions in Mike’s honor are suggested to the Disabled Veterans of America, online at www.dav.org
