Pearl Georgia Hoffine, 88, of Easton, passed away at the Harborview Medical Center in Seattle on Thursday, August 4, 2022 with family by her side.
Pearl was born September 24, 1933 in Sandpoint, Idaho to Clifford “Ted” Bruhn and Eva (Schwab) Bruhn. Life was simpler but times were tough following the worst of the Great Depression and families working together made the best. She attended small schools locally and gained her education. Pearl moved with family to Washington following employment opportunities, which took them as far as Guemes Island, north of Anacortes.
Pearl eventually came to Easton, Washington where she met a young bushler named Charles Hoffine. They were wed and started a family of their own. They managed to have six children whom they raised in the Easton area. In the mid-seventies Chuck and Pearl started their own business “Charlie’s Design and Installation”, which they operated for nearly 25 years. They were fondly remembered in the Lake Kachess area for installing septic system, foundations or lot clearing for new homes. They literally were a “mom and pop” crew with Chuck on the hoe and Pearl in the ditch laboring or taking elevations. They worked well together. Their home was modest but became the meeting hub for all family gatherings. “Large turkey dinners with all the fixins and homemade pies” for every holiday……at times standing room only. No shortage of good memories and great smells.
Pearl was a great homemaker. She was quiet, humble and an excellent listener. She would always make you feel welcome as friend or family. She would not rush to judgement, nor condemn, but rather just listen, provide support, reassurance and help in any way needed.
She is remembered by children throughout the Easton area as “the popcorn ball lady” at Halloween she would traditionally pass out colored homemade popcorn balls to trick or treaters. Others remember homemade root beer and soft vanilla ice cream made from their machine.
Chuck and Pearl spent 57 wonderful years together until he passed in 2010. Pearl continued to be a rock for the family up to this time. We will miss and cherish her in our lives and thoughts and appreciate how blessed we were to have her.
She is survived by her brother Gary Bruhn, children Debra Carpenter (Bill), Pamela Nelson (Joe), Rebecca Crow (Brent), Carla Hoffine, Randy Hoffine (Marlene) and Sandra McLaughlin (Darren), sixteen grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren, a great-great grandchild due in October and numerous nieces and nephews. Oh yeah and Zoe, her 14-year-old dachshund.
A graveside service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 13, 2022 at Laurel Hill Memorial Park in Cle Elum.
