Ryan Kelly Papineau, 46, of Kent and formerly of Ellensburg, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, January 29, 2024 from complications due to a major cardiac event.
Ryan was born on February 14, 1977 in Seattle, Washington, the second of three sons born to Daniel & Christine (Bunkelman) Papineau. He grew up in Ellensburg and graduated from Ellensburg High School in 1996. Following graduation, he attended Central Washington University where he graduated with his bachelor's degree in computer science. He later earned his master’s degree in computer science from the University of Phoenix. Computers were his passion going all the way back to his childhood when he would spend hours taking them apart, only to put them back together.
At the time of his death, Ryan was employed by Alaska Airlines in their information technology department where he specialized in cybersecurity and software development. He was exceptionally intelligent and regarded by many of his peers as an expert in his field.
Ryan married Anne Scroggs and, although that marriage later ended in divorce, they were blessed with one son, Thomas Lane Papineau. Thomas was the light of Ryan’s life and he thoroughly enjoyed all of the time they spent together taking adventures and making memories.
Ryan’s hobbies and interests were varied but the highlights include photography, video games, going to the beach and being outdoors. He had a gentle spirit, a great smile and an amazing sense of humor.
Ryan is survived by his son Thomas; mother Christine; brother Patrick (Michelle) and nephew Max; as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his infant brother Kyle in 1975 and his father Daniel in 2023.
Ryan had a deep appreciation for law enforcement since his father was a KCSO Deputy for many years. To that end, memorial contributions in Ryan’s name would be greatly appreciated to the Behind the Badge Foundation, 8309 165th Ave NE #205, Redmond, WA 98052 or online at www.behindthebadgefoundation.org
