After a long courageous battle with cancer, Stephanie Ann Campbell died at home on January 14, 2021 at the age of 65. Stephanie is survived by her husband, Craig Campbell, and her children, Kristi Michaels, Mckenzie Campbell Davies, Cameron Campbell, and Annie Campbell. She was preceded in death by her father in 2002, and her mother just a few weeks ago in December 2020.
Stephanie was born on September 8, 1955 in Seattle, Washington to John and Norine Martin. She graduated from Shelton High School in 1973. She married Chris Pyle in 1978, but became a widow when he died in 1983, leaving her as a single mother of one daughter. In 1985 she met Craig Campbell, they were married in 1987, and had 33 adventure-filled years together. She was deeply loved.
Stephanie worked for ITT Rayonier after being widowed, but began school at Shoreline Community College in the early 1990s. In 1994 she graduated with honors from the nursing program and worked at Crista in Seattle, then assorted volunteer jobs while homeschooling her children. In 2000, she and her husband joined Wycliffe Bible Translators and for the next 7 years she used her nursing skills in Papua New Guinea where she became the head nurse at the Ukarumpa clinic, and eventually clinic manager. On return to the USA in 2007, she worked at several places, but her favorite was as a telephone triage nurse at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.
Stephanie was a generous giver of herself and her resources. She loved people, loved travel, and loved the outdoors. These, and her strong Christian faith, led her to serving in missions overseas. She volunteered for many different roles at church. She was an avid hiker, camper, backpacker and cross-country skier. She enjoyed scuba diving. She loved international travel, from living in a Papua New Guinean village to life on a cruise ship. However, her favorite places were the wilder parts of the national parks and forests and she was especially drawn to Mount Rainier and Glacier National Parks. She hiked to Angel’s Landing in Zion National Park, climbed Mount Saint Helens and Mount Baker, and skied and hiked many miles in the Washington Cascades. She ran a marathon, and rode the 200-mile Seattle to Portland bicycle event. Her greatest joy were her children and grandchildren.
She also loved to dance, and all that knew her know that she is now dancing for Jesus.
A memorial service will be scheduled at a later time for family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Wycliffe Bible Translators (www.wycliffe.org) at 11221 John Wycliffe Blvd, Orlando, FL 32832. Condolences may be sent to Craig Campbell at 1015 E 2nd St, #2101, Cle Elum, WA 98922.
