Steven Roy Douglas, 76, went home to the Lord on May 11, 2024. Steve was born April 27, 1948, in Salem, Oregon to Chester Orin & Ella (Sturdevant) Douglas. Steve grew up in Salem with his aunts, uncles and their families and friends, hunting and fishing each year around the mountains and lakes of Oregon.

Steve helped with the establishment of a Baskin-Robbins in Salem in 1965. After graduation from South Salem High School in 1966, Steve attended college at Oregon Technical Institute in Klamath Falls, Oregon, graduating in 1971 with a Bachelor of Electronic Engineering. He worked in the campus radio station, developing his interest in radio. He was hired by a local radio station in 1968 as a DJ and moved to television in 1972 as the chief engineer. In 1981, Steve moved to Ellensburg, working at CWU in the media department and helped install and maintain electronic equipment for the next 33 years, retiring in 2014.

In 1968 Steve met and married Betty Stevens. Together they raised two sons and were involved in Boy Scouts and Band Parents Group with both of them.

He was involved in many service organizations including Sheriff’s Reserves, Search & Rescue, EMT, Planning Commission and Cub Master for Cub Scouts all in Klamath County, Oregon. Once moving to Kittitas County, he started with Cub Scout Pack when his sons were young, then moved to Scoutmaster for their Boy Scout Troop. He was also involved with the Ellensburg Police Reserves, Search & Rescue, Volunteer Fire Departments, Fire Reserves, an EMT, and a member of the County Planning Commission. He received his HAM radio license and was able to acquire his father’s 1941 call sign, W7JAA.

Steve was preceded in death by both parents and grandson Austin Allen. He is survived by his wife, Betty, of 56 years; brother Don Douglas, two nephews and families of Soldotna, Alaska; sons Steve (Christina) Douglas of West Virginia and Dave (Crista) Douglas of Ellensburg; grandchildren Ashlee Goos Douglas, David Douglas, Andrew Douglas, Samantha (EJ) Boyer, Ryan Logsdon and Ethan Logsdon; and three great-granddaughters.

Viewing will be Friday, May 17 starting at 10:00 a.m. with his family present to greet visitors from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at Johnston & Williams in Ellensburg. His funeral service will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 18 at the Ellensburg Foursquare Church with burial to follow at High Valley Cemetery. A luncheon will follow the graveside at the First Christian Church in Ellensburg.

Memorial contributions in Steve’s honor are suggested to the Ellensburg First Christian Church, the Alvord Brain Tumor Center at the UW Medical Center, or to the Oncology Department at Wenatchee Confluence Health.
