January 12, 1970 — February 8, 2021

Cle Elum, Washington

Steven Kelly Houle, 51, of Cle Elum, passed away on Monday, February 8, 2021 while enjoying one of his winter-time hobbies of snowbiking in the mountains above Lake Cle Elum.  Viewing for family and friends will be from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on both Tuesday, February 16th and Wednesday, February 17th at Johnston & Williams Funeral Home in Ellensburg.  A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 20th also at the funeral home.  Due to current restrictions, attendance is limited to family and invited guests but a livestream will be available starting at 10:25 a.m. at www.johnston-williams.com The service will be followed by a procession to Laurel Hill Memorial Park in Cle Elum where friends and coworkers may gather to pay their respects.

Steve, known to many as Stevie, was born on January 12, 1970 in Enumclaw, Washington to Howard and Terri Houle.  He was raised in Cle Elum and graduated from Cle Elum-Roslyn High School in 1988.  He started working with the State Patrol in 1993 in the scalehouse, before becoming a Trooper in 1999, specializing in Commercial Vehicles.

Steve met his wife Laurie in the Summer of 2009, and the two were wed on December 30th, 2014 in the Cayman Islands.

Steve was a loving husband to Laurie, a caring father to his children, Hayden, Rachel, and Connor, and a dear friend to those that encompassed his life. He also shared  a great love for his dog Josie who was lucky enough to share his pillow with him. His laughter and smile will be forever remembered by his brothers and sisters in blue. The mark Steve left has made an impact on the entire community and he will be greatly missed. He enjoyed nothing more than being outdoors. Whether he was snowbiking in the winter and spring, hiking in the summer with his family, or hunting and fishing with his friends in the fall, he always had a smile on his face. Jeeping, boating, and camping were staples of Steve’s life. He took these passions with him across the Northwest, including Lake Roosevelt and Whistlin’ Jack’s. More recently, Steve and Laurie had taken many road trips back to Montana in search of that “special place” for their future retirement. Steve had many secret fishing and hunting spots that were dear to his heart and held many memories. Those memories will be continued with his friends and family. He was a member of The Cascade Field and Stream Club as well as the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation. He also volunteered at Kittitas County Fire District #7 for many years.

Including his immediate family, Steve is survived by his parents Howard and Terri Houle, his brothers Scott (Joyce), Todd, and Duane (Becky) Houle, along with his cousin Colette and many others. He also was a role model to his nieces Alex and Carlee, as well as his nephew Colton. His brothers and sisters in the Washington State Patrol and his countless friends will keep his legacy alive.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the Steve Houle Memorial Fund, which can be made at any Cashmere Valley or US Bank branch. All donations made in honor of Steve will go directly to his family and the charities that were special to him. The family thanks everyone for their support during this unimaginable time.
