Sheri Dawn Hubbard, 68, longtime Kittitas Valley resident, passed away at her home on Monday, May 23, 2022. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, June 17, 2022 at Johnston & Williams Funeral Home in Ellensburg.
Sheri was born on April 6, 1954 in Seattle, Washington to James & Eileen (Shannon) Ruddell. Her father’s employment with Seattle City Light moved the family to Metaline Falls and it was there that Sheri made the best memories of her life. She was very active in high school and enjoyed her time as a cheerleader. She graduated from high school in Metaline Falls in 1972 and was recently working on putting together this year’s class reunion.
Following graduation, Sheri went to work for the Milwaukee Road, working in Metaline Falls as a trainee. She later transferred to St. Maries, Idaho as an Operator/Agent, working in St. Maries from 1976 to 1980. After the railroad shut down, Sheri then began a long career working in banking and finance roles. She started with Alaska Housing Finance and later worked in various finance driven positions at the University of Montana, the University of Alaska-Anchorage and finished her career at Central Washington University where she was employed for over 20 years, retiring in 2016.
While working in St. Maries, Sheri met a handsome railroad engineer named Eric Hubbard. They married on September 1, 1978 in Coeur d’ Alene, Idaho and have been each other’s best friends and companions since that time. Along the way, they welcomed their son, CJ, to the family.
Sheri was a well known and respected horse woman, having raised over 60 horses throughout the last 25 years, many of which went on to be champions in over seven states and three countries. Sheri was very involved in the local 4-H programs in the valley, serving for many years as the Chicken Barn supervisor. During this time, Sheri helped lead the charge to grow the poultry program and expand the barn.
Sheri was a very talented artist and created many pieces of stained glass artwork over the years. Of course, any writeup on Sheri’s life would be incomplete without talking about her love for fishing. Her greatest catch was in Alaska, taking just over an hour to land an 80 pound king salmon using a 24lb test line… but she did it!
Sheri is survived by her husband Eric Hubbard; son CJ Hubbard and his daughter Piper; sister Teri Ruddell and brother Chris Ruddell. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister Shannon.
Memorial contributions in Sheri’s honor are suggested to the Kittitas County 4-H Program, 901 E 7th Ave #2, Ellensburg, WA 98926.
Johnston & Williams Funeral Home and Crematory of Ellensburg has been entrusted with caring for Sheri and her family. Online condolences may be left at www.johnston-williams.com
