Valerie G. Barton

Valerie G. Barton, 85, passed away on Thursday, October 5, 2023, at her home on the South Thorp Highway in Ellensburg, Washington.  She was born on April 10, 1938 in Ellensburg to Almer and Betty Stevenson.  She graduated from Kittitas High School in 1956.  In 1956, she married Alden Barton, her best friend.  They had been married 67 years.  She was a beautiful lady, with a beautiful smile.  She was kindhearted and had a good sense of humor.

Valerie was a very hard worker.  She worked at the freezing plant in Ellensburg, which was first Stokleys Picked Sweet, and then Twin City Foods.  She worked there for 40 years as a lab technician.  She was very gifted.  She could make a home beautiful inside and outside.  Valerie and Alden restored their home and have lived in it for 57 years.  She textured every ceiling in the house, put wallpaper up in the hallway that was very high.  She wired antique lamps and even hung them.  She took shop in high school and could do almost anything.  She loved flowers and had several flower gardens, which she kept free of weeds.  She loved animals and had many rescue cats.  Two cats stayed with her until the end.  She was a wonderful Christian wife and mother and loved the Lord.  She will be missed very much.

Valerie leaves behind a loving family including her husband Alden, brother Bob (Joanne) Stevenson, nephew Jeff (Pamela) Stevenson, children Shelly (Andy) Anderson of Port Orchard, Danita Barton of Ellensburg and Monte Barton of Ellensburg, as well as five grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents Almer and Betty Stevenson and brother Rodney Stevenson.

A memorial service to honor Valerie’s life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 28, 2023 at the Kittitas Community Church in Kittitas.

Valerie will be dearly missed by her family, friends, and all those whose lives she touched.
