The "mortuary" is the building ... the "funeral home" is the people inside who work together to ensure your family receives the award winning service Johnston & Williams is known for. We're proud to have a dedicated team to serve your family in your time of need. Read below to learn more about each of our team members.
Henry D. Johnston, CFSP, is a first generation licensed Funeral Director and Embalmer and owner of Johnston & Williams Funeral Home and Crematory. He was born and raised in North Idaho, graduating from Sandpoint High School in 2003. After living on the Palouse region of Washington/Idaho for nearly 15 years, he moved to Ellensburg in late 2017 to assume management of what was then Steward & Williams Funeral Home in Ellensburg and Cascade Funeral Home in Cle Elum. He purchased both firms in July 2020 and renamed both to Johnston & Williams.
Henry earned his Associate's Degree in Mortuary Science from Arapahoe Community College and holds national certificates in both Arts and Sciences granted by the International Conference of Funeral Service Examining Boards. Henry has been a member of the Academy of Professional Funeral Service Practice, holding the additional industry designation of Certified Funeral Service Practitioner (CFSP) since 2019. He is also an alumni member of the Arapahoe Community College Mortuary Science Program Advisory Board.
Henry is a member of the Ellensburg Downtown Rotary Club, the Ellensburg Rodeo Gold Buckle Club and a board member for the KVH Hospital Foundation. He is a Past President of the Washington Cemetery, Cremation and Funeral Association (WCCFA) and has also served on the boards of the Kittitas County Chamber of Commerce and Hearts & Hands Kittitas County (formerly Hospice Friends).
He lives in Ellensburg with his spouse and their two children.
Joe Loran is a licensed Funeral Director who also keeps the day to day operations of the funeral home running smoothly from the front office.
After graduating with his Associate's Degree in Mortuary Science from the PIMA Medical Institute in Seattle, Joe worked as a Funeral Director at Greenwood Funeral Home & Memorial Park in Renton before moving to Kittitas County where he joined the Johnston & Williams team in May 2022.
Joe lives in the Upper County with his other half, two shepherd dogs and is an exceptionally talented graphic designer and artist.
Helen Mills has been part of the Johnston & Wiliams team since October 2023, starting as a Funeral Associate before being promoted to Intern Funeral Director/Embalmer in May 2024.
Helen is a 2023 graduate of Ellensburg High School and is currently taking classes to complete her funeral service degree online through the Des Moines (Iowa) Area Community College Mortuary Science Program.
Helen is the first in her family to enter the funeral profession, something she has wanted to pursue since she was in middle school. When she's not working at the funeral home, her hobbies include writing, creating amazing pieces of collage art and spending time with her dogs.
Mina Kover has been part of the Johnston & Williams team since the fall of 2022 following her completion of an academic internship with the Kittitas County Coroner's Office.
Originally from Olympia, and a graduate of North Thurston High School, Mina is a student at Central Washington University where she is double-majoring in Law & Justice and Anthropology. She loves to crochet (in fact, she's made a few winter hats and scarves for the funeral home staff) and is also an avid reader and a dog lover.
Johnny is an amazing human being who is still working on his biography for the website. But if you're curious, yes, he would be "Mr. Graf" from the Ellensburg School District. More details to come!
